A press conference presenting our newest travelling project,
FOOD, Reflections on Mother Earth, Agriculture and Nutrition,
will take place on October 16, 2012, during the International
World Food Day, at Palazzo Isimbardi, via Vivaio 1 in Milan,
in collaboration with the Cultural Department of the Provincia
di Milano, the Department of Culture and Sport of the City of Geneva,
Slow Food and the University of Bicocca, under the patronage of Expo 2015,
the Universal Exhibition of Milan, having the topic Feeding the Planet. Energy for life.
FOOD will be shown in Geneva at Musée Adriana ( December 18, 2012 – February 24, 2013) ,
in Milan at Spazio Oberdan ( September-November 2013), in Marseille at MuCEM, Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée

Two gigantic chairs stuck directly in the middle of the nave inside Saint-Anne’s chapel,
one laden with bundles of material, the other with large wooden stamps, both surrounded
by loads of others, normal sized: Barthélémy Toguo occupies the territory. In the
chancel, a pyramid of more bundles, in the lateral alcoves, additional stamps
simply placed on tables. All multicolored, multicultural and multinational, his work
proceeds from an open, altruist reflection about man’s destiny and the way the world works.
Homelessness, displacement, evocation, Toguo stages all sorts of drifting, testimony
of his will to embrace the world. A work open to all horizons and all
winds when the spirit breathes with humanity in perpetual movement.

"Against the Grain: Wood in Contemporary Art", Craft, and Design demonstrates how 20th and 21st century creators have engaged the medium of wood with conceptual and technical strategies. This timely exhibition, organized by the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York, addresses a heavily debated topic in the field: as the boundaries between art, craft and design increasingly overlap, should these categories be redefined, and if so, how? In Against the Grain, the versatile medium of wood is used to address this issue, exploring postmodern tendencies including mimicry, assemblage, virtuosity, and whimsy (with a serious purpose), as well as environmental issues associated with woodworking.
